Hello from Kilarney, Ireland county of Kerry.  I was dropped off this morning by my farm family this afternoon after a nice walk by a beautiful lake.  I had a great time with them over the last few weeks and learned alot.  It was hard work sometimes.  Mick and I have alot in common when it comes to our political opinions.  I've sent some pictures of mick and Ruth below.  Um going to do some backpacking in the mountains around here and then head north.  Eventually saling over to Scotland from Belfast.  Bye - Micah

Hi from Kilmichael Cork - I am now in county Cork Ireland working on a nice farm with my new friends Mick and Ruth Cadek. It is really nice here. On Friday we all went to Bantry town together and picked up 10 chickens. These are chickens for eating, but there are also hens for laying eggs as well. Mick is very musical and today I got a crash course on basic Irish tunes, I am going to play at a session with him next week. Ruth is a great cook, and I look fprward to dinner every night. What have I been doing around the farm? Making beds for new plants, clearing weeds, spreading compost earthing up the potatoe plants. Today Mick Ruth there three dogs and son Mark and I all went to Googhanbarra park and had a nice walk. I took pictures. Hope this letter finds you all well. Micah

Hello From Killarney - On my way to Cork (Ireland) since my lest letter I spent 2 beautiful days in Athlone, and saw the Clonmacniose abbey which is built on an ancient early christian site along the Shannon river. The monastery was started by St Ceiran who it is said was trained by Finan and spent time on the Aran island of Inis Man studying with St Enda as well. The abbey was beautiful and so was the town. There was a wedding function going on. So far I have encountered in 1 way or another 3 funerals and 2 weddings and1 festival on my travels. Now I am in Kilarney which is a national park in county Kerry. It is a great lively city with alot of art. Take care - Micah

Hello From Kells - Kells is a nice city in Meath which is where it is said that the book of Kells was finished.  It is said that it was started on the Isle of Iona  (an Island in Scotland) which was founded by Columban monks in the 560s, then moved to Kells or possably finished here after the viking raidings began.  There is a big tower and a house of Columba in the town which date back to the 10th century, and a heritage center that has replicas of some great Celtic artifacts like broches and croziers and even the Book of Kells itself.

Today I hitchiked out to see the Louchcrew Cairns.  I got rides very easily from nice local people.  A legend says that these Cairns (burial chambers) were created from a witch jumping from one hill to the next dropping stones from her apron.  What these chambers were used for is a mystery like the chambers at Newgrange.  Well take care- Micah

Hello from Navan, Meath, Irlenad -  I left the farm I was visiting on Sunday and headed for the Boyne valley.  It has been an educational and fun three days.  The first day I stayed in county Louth in a town called Ardee which is famous as Cuchulain country.  I then bussed to Drogheda in county Meath and stayed there.  I visited the famous new grange burial chamber, although nobody knows exactly what is was for so I shouldn't call it a burial chamber. It is a mound built in the earth complete with carvings.  The mound itself predates the pyramids which makes it stone age pre-Celtic.  The Celts were an iron age inhabitant of Ireland.  The mound has been occupied through the centuries by the Celts, early Christian and Norman Irish.  There is definitely a lot of mystery and its fun to think of why these things were built and how they were used ect.  It feels to me like a sort of energy line or lay line like the mystics have talked about for hundreds of years.  Today I took the bus to Navan and had a visit to the hill of Tara where Irish Kings were ceremonially  made.  It  is said to be the center of Ireland.  In the "Royal Seat" sits the Lia Fail, or stone of destiny.  It is said that the stone cries out when a king sits on it.  Tomorow I continue my journy along the Boyne river on into Kells to see some more history and then I am going to head to Cork to stay on another organic farm.  Traveling is so much fun and teaches me so much.  Bye.  Micah
